Anya Szreter first sang as an undergraduate at Oxford University, and has continually built her career, giving recitals all over Britain that cover all periods of classical music. After gaining her degree in Music at Oxford, Anya took a postgraduate singing course at the Royal College of Music in London, and won a bursary to study with Paul Hamburger and Sena Jurinac at the Vienna Beethoven Hochschule. Her career has encompassed oratorio and opera, as well as principal soprano position with the New London Opera Players singing the title roles in Tosca and Fidelio throughout the UK. Anya’s repertoire covers all periods of classical music and she has given first performances of works by Richard Sisson, Julian Dawes and Duncan Fraser.
Her operatic history includes the following (non-exhaustive) roles: VIOLETTA La Traviata, Verdi TOSCA Tosca (title role), Puccini LEONORA Fidelio, Beethoven DONNA ELVIRA Don Giovanni, Mozart
And with vast experience as an oratorio Soloist, her works include: Carmina Burana, The Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Faure and Mozart Requiems, Schubert, Haydn and Beethoven Masses, as well as pieces by Tippett, Goodall and many more.
In 2018, Anya relocated to Bristol where she now runs the three choirs she has established, all of which have regular engagements in the city’s cultural calendar. She also regularly performs with her band, XXX, takes part in choral director duties across the city, and continues to give solo recitals.
